Šeško makes his case for Man United ahead of Manchester derby

Benjamin Šeško has presented manager Michael Carrick with a major selection dilemma ahead of Sunday's clash with Manchester City after netting in Manchester United's 4-0 Champions League victory over Sabah FK. Having suffered an injury in early May that wiped out his entire preseason, the 23-year-old Slovenian forward began the campaign on the bench for league matches against Hull City, Ipswich Town, and Everton.

After opening his account as a substitute at Hill Dickinson Stadium on Sunday, Šeško earned his first start on Thursday, latching onto a Bryan Mbeumo delivery late in the opening half to round the keeper and score his second goal in five days before Joshua Zirkzee replaced him after 63 minutes.

The triumph marked United's first appearance in Europe's elite tournament since 2023, with Matheus Cunha also recording his first goal of the season against the Azerbaijani champions, who were established only nine years ago. To include Šeško against City, Carrick must decide whether to leave out one of his other in-form attackers: Mbeumo produced a brilliant solo strike last weekend, while Marcus Rashford shone as the standout performer at Everton before being rested as an unused substitute against Sabah.
