‘She Belongs in the Conversation’ – ESPN Icon Linda Cohn Floats 5-Time WNBA All-Star As Chris DeMarco’s Replacement for Liberty’s HC Job

Following the departure of Chris DeMarco after a single season, the New York Liberty are searching for a new head coach. ESPN broadcaster Linda Cohn has publicly suggested franchise legend Teresa Weatherspoon as a top candidate for the vacancy.

Weatherspoon, a two-time Defensive Player of the Year and five-time All-Star, previously spent seven seasons as a player for the organization before transitioning into coaching roles across the WNBA, NBA, and collegiate levels. Her resume includes a 99-71 record at Louisiana Tech and a 2024 head coaching stint with the Chicago Sky, where the team finished 13-27.

DeMarco was dismissed after the Liberty failed to advance past the semifinals, a tenure marked by playoff losses and a lack of public support from the team's star players.
