German tennis star Alexander Zverev officially claimed the ATP World No. 1 ranking after defeating Tallon Griekspoor in the Vienna Open, a title he secured just days before his Paris Masters campaign.
The milestone was celebrated by his girlfriend, actress and model Sophia Thomalla, who shared an emotional Instagram post calling him “fully deserving” of the top spot. Though Zverev had already earned the year-end No.
1 ranking prior to his Vienna victory, the official trophy presentation—handed to him by ATP Chairman Andrea Gaudenzi and Paris Masters director Cedric Pioline—marked a formal recognition of his dominance. His recent form, however, has faced scrutiny after a surprising semifinal loss to Alex de Minaur in Vienna, where he won just one set despite reaching the quarterfinals with a dominant 6-0, 6-2 victory over Arthur Fery.
At the Paris Masters, Zverev enters as the top seed with a first-round bye, but his path begins in the second round against Lorenzo Musetti, an Italian rising star who has beaten former top-10 players and leads their head-to-head record 3-2.
