Buccaneers' Baker Mayfield surprisingly not carrying vengeful spirit into Week 2 showdown with Browns

Baker Mayfield entered the league as the top overall draft selection and guided Cleveland to its first postseason triumph since 1994, only to be shipped away for a conditional fifth-round pick when the club acquired Deshaun Watson in 2022. Following short stints with both Carolina and the Rams, Mayfield revitalized his career in Tampa Bay, earning two Pro Bowl nods and securing a three-year contract extension worth $165 million.

He previously faced his former squad while with the Panthers, suffering a 26-24 defeat, and held a grudge against current Jets defensive coordinator Steve Wilks for letting him go during their shared time in Carolina.

Over the summer, Mayfield revealed on the "4th and South" podcast hosted by Jarvis Landry and Leonard Fournette that he had highlighted the Week 2 home clash against the Browns, stating an intention to demonstrate which home was superior. However, during his Wednesday press conference leading up to Sunday's matchup, the quarterback adopted a much calmer tone toward his former organization rather than supplying inflammatory remarks.
