The Milwaukee Brewers secured a 3-2 victory over the Tampa Bay Rays on Friday night to take a 1-0 lead in the World Series. This marks the Brewers' first return to the Fall Classic since 1982, a series they lost in seven games.
Starting pitcher Jacob Misiorowski, the expected NL Cy Young winner, threw the fastest pitch in World Series history and gave up one run over five innings, allowing four hits, one walk, and striking out three on 73 pitches. The Rays' lone run came after Junior Caminero hit a 112.7 mph double that fooled center fielder Garrett Mitchell.
Following Misiorowski, the Brewers' bullpen—including Abner Uribe, Aaron Ashby, and Trevor Megill—combined for four innings and five strikeouts. Megill faced a high-stress ninth inning where a potential game-ending double play was overturned because shortstop Cooper Pratt's foot came off second base.
Despite loading the bases, Megill struck out Jonny DeLuca to seal the win. Game 2 is set for Saturday at 8 p.m.
ET, featuring rookie Logan Henderson against Rays ace Drew Rasmussen, who the Rays bypassed for Game 1 in favor of Nick Martinez.
