The DP World Tour has dealt a significant setback to LIV Golf’s restructuring efforts by banning its players from competing in its events starting in 2027. The decision effectively bars European LIV Golf members—including Ryder Cup regulars like Jon Rahm and Tyrrell Hatton—from participating in the DP World Tour, which is a prerequisite for representing Europe in the 2027 Ryder Cup at Adare Manor.
The move follows LIV Golf’s Chapter 11 bankruptcy filing in September, as the league seeks to rebrand as a player-owned tour under a new structure. BC Partners, the investment firm leading the restructuring, has extended the commitment deadline for players to October 25, offering a 52.5% equity stake and a $300 million total investment—though only $4 million has been allocated so far.
Rahm’s attorney confirmed earlier this month that the golfer will not return to LIV Golf 2.0, signaling that top defectors may prioritize flexibility over the league’s uncertain future. With LIV Golf’s 2027 schedule slated for just 10 tournaments, the loss of DP World Tour eligibility further limits players’ ability to earn ranking points and compete in majors, raising doubts about the league’s long-term viability.
