Reigning world champion Pecco Bagnaia admitted that intermittent rainfall acted as a fortunate relief during the Malaysian Grand Prix sprint after his Ducati suffered severe rear tyre degradation. Starting tenth on the grid following a difficult qualification session, the Italian rider crossed the finish line sixth in the ten-lap event, finishing 8.3 seconds behind the race winner.
Bagnaia explained that his rear tyre deteriorated completely after only three laps due to excessive sliding upon entering corners, a persistent issue setting him apart from his fellow Ducati competitors. Although he achieved a strong initial launch and braking maneuver, the rapid rubber wear left him struggling significantly throughout the remaining laps at the circuit.
