Why Gambhir calls India's NZ T20I triumph incredible

India’s head coach Gautam Gambhir hailed the team’s dominant T20I series win over New Zealand as a remarkable achievement, given the extreme time constraints and unfamiliar conditions. The squad arrived in New Zealand with just one day of preparation before the series opener on October 22, battling jet lag and playing in a foreign environment for the first time.

Despite these challenges—including 70-80% of the players touring New Zealand for the first time—they secured three straight victories to clinch the five-match series, overcoming New Zealand’s home advantage and experience in T20 cricket. Gambhir singled out captain Shreyas Iyer for his leadership, particularly in guiding an inexperienced bowling attack, while noting that the upcoming ODIs and Tests would allow for more strategic planning than the rushed T20I schedule permitted.
