Why Bruno Fernandes got a second chance after missing penalty against Roma

Manchester United midfielder Bruno Fernandes was granted a penalty retake during a Champions League fixture against Roma after an initial attempt was saved by Devis Vasquez. The referee, Jesus Gil Manzano, ordered the repeat following a VAR review that identified Bryan Cristante for encroaching into the box before the shot was taken.

The penalty had been awarded earlier in the second half when Gianluca Mancini fouled Matheus Cunha with Roma holding a two-goal lead. Fernandes capitalized on his second opportunity by placing the ball into the top corner, successfully beating Vasquez who had guessed the wrong direction.
