After weeks of defiance and mounting fines, Chicago Bears quarterback Caleb Williams finally complied with the NFL’s uniform policy during Monday’s 34-17 victory over the Seattle Seahawks. Williams, who had worn his Caddix-branded cleats without covering the logo throughout the season, faced a cumulative $35,823 in penalties after two separate violations in Weeks 6 and 7.
The league’s strict rules permit only Nike, Adidas, and Under Armour logos on the field, though players can wear non-partnered cleats if they obscure the brand. Williams initially refused to alter his footwear, even risking potential ineligibility for the game, but ultimately covered the Caddix logo to avoid further distractions.
In a post-game statement, he emphasized his commitment to keeping the focus on the team rather than controversy. The decision marks a shift after Williams had previously dismissed the fines as negligible, signaling a pragmatic end to his public stand against the league’s regulations.
