Who is Aazaar Abdul-Rahim? What to know of Maryland interim head coach

Maryland has dismissed head coach Mike Locksley after a 2-5 start to the 2026 season. The decision follows a five-game losing streak, including a home defeat to Rutgers. Locksley finished his eight-year tenure with a 39-54 record, having previously posted 4-8 marks in both 2024 and 2025.

The university owes Locksley nearly $10 million, with $4.9 million due within 60 days. Following the firing, the school promoted Co-defensive coordinator Aazaar Abdul-Rahim to interim head coach, while also letting go of defensive coordinator Ted Monachino.
