The Golden State Warriors are considering trading Kristaps Porzingis, who has been absent from the team since before training camp. The center is struggling with postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome, a condition that causes heart rates to spike after standing up, which has hindered his play for several seasons.
Porzingis is currently weighing whether to continue his professional basketball career.
Last year's trade deadline acquisition, Porzingis averaged 16.1 points, 5.3 rebounds, and 1.1 blocks across 15 games for Golden State. Despite this, he signed a two-year, $40 million extension this summer, though only $3 million of the 2027-28 season is guaranteed.
The Warriors are looking to use him as salary ballast in a deal involving other assets to acquire a valuable player, likely resulting in the latter team waiving him next summer. Porzingis recently visited the team's practice facility to meet with management and doctors, later posting on X that he is receiving proper care and does not have HIV or AIDS.
