Bronny James entered his third preseason with the Los Angeles Lakers hampered by a quad contusion he sustained just before training camp, which limited his practice load and game minutes. Over five preseason contests he logged an average of 16.4 minutes, contributed 2.2 points, 2.8 assists and 2.4 rebounds per outing, shot 25% from the field and 12.5% from three‑point range, and turned the ball over 12 times.
Head coach JJ Redick noted that James was often paired with camp invitees rather than established rotation players, a factor that may have compounded his modest production. The injury‑affected showing leaves his role on the opening night roster uncertain as he competes with the likes of Austin Reaves, Collin Sexton and other backcourt options for minutes.
