Former coach Sean Foley revealed that Tiger Woods once practiced in waterproof clothing during 100-degree Florida heat and humidity to prepare for The Open Championship. Woods noticed that the rain gear restricted his clubhead speed and caused an open face on mid-irons, leading him to adjust his left foot positioning to maintain his backswing.
While other players struggled with their gear during rainy Thursday rounds at the tournament, Woods remained unfazed by the constraints.
Woods has won the Claret Jug three times, including a 2000 victory that completed his Career Grand Slam. He has recorded more top-10 finishes at The Open than at any major except for The Masters.
Butch Harmon noted that Woods would often hit specific shots in PGA Tour events weeks before the final major of the year. Foley and Woods worked together from 2010 to 2014, a period during which Woods did not secure a PGA Tour win until the 2012 Arnold Palmer Invitational.
