The Ohio State Buckeyes' championship aspirations remain intact despite the loss of Julian Sayin, who suffered a throwing arm injury during the matchup against Indiana. While Sayin's seven-game performance of 2,007 passing yards and 19 touchdowns was significant, the team is turning to Luke Fahey to lead the offense.
Fahey, who is undersized and lacks experience, brings a different dynamic to the ability to escape pressure and extend plays via his mobility.
Fahey's previous appearances against Ball State and Kent State saw him complete nine of eleven passes for 203 yards and two touchdowns, though he also threw two interceptions. During his limited time against Indiana, his passing was less effective, as he went 0-for-2, but he managed an eight-yard scramble on a second-and-28 situation to secure a first down.
Ohio State's history of success with backup quarterbacks, such as the 2014 title run with Cardale Jones, following injuries to Braxton Miller and J.T. Barrett, provides a reason for optimismism.
