The Punjab Cricket Association has recruited veteran fast bowler Umesh Yadav as a guest player for the upcoming 2026-27 red-ball tournament. Association leadership secured a clearance certificate from Vidarbha, marking the first time the organization has utilized a guest player.
The decision aims to bolster the bowling attack while national duties draw away regular pacers Arshdeep Singh and Gurnoor Brar, as the squad pursues its first championship since 1992. PCA president Amarjit Mehta and team coach Amit Uniyal both emphasized the value of the 38-year-old international veteran's fitness, domestic titles, and experience for mentoring younger squad members.
