Fifteen-year-old Vaibhav Sooryavanshi made history by becoming the youngest Indian to secure an Asian Games gold medal, contributing to a thrilling victory over Pakistan in the men's cricket final held in Nisshin. The teenager, who plays for the Rajasthan Royals in the IPL, contributed fifteen runs from nine deliveries with a pair of maximums as India successfully defended their continental crown by posting 211 for six before bowling out their opponents for 192.
Sooryavanshi surpassed the previous mark set by shooter Saurabh Chaudhary at the 2018 Jakarta games, though Chaudhary retains the record for the youngest individual gold medallist since the cricketer's triumph came via a team event. Earlier in the campaign, the youngster played a crucial knock of 38 runs off 21 deliveries during the semi-final against Sri Lanka to help set up a dominant 124-run win.
His quarter-final fixture against Afghanistan was abandoned due to rain, leaving him with a tournament aggregate of 53 runs across two completed innings at a striking rate of 176.66.
