Tilak Varma has established a new benchmark for fielding excellence, securing the most catches by an outfielder in a single calendar year of men's T20 international cricket. During the second match against New Zealand, he recorded his 25th and 26th catches of 2026 by dismissing Tim Seifert and Daryl Mitchell, surpassing the previous record held by Danilson Hawoe.
India captain Shreyas Iyer opted to field first after winning the toss, and the bowling unit initially restricted the hosts to 41 for three within the opening six overs.
New Zealand recovered through a 116-run partnership between Glenn Phillips, who contributed 70 runs, and Bevon Jacobs, who added 50. Michael Bracewell provided a late boost to help the team reach a final total of 180 for five.
Arshdeep Singh led the Indian bowling attack with two wickets, while Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Prince Yadav, and Nitish Kumar Reddy each claimed one. Vaibhav Sooryavanshi was also included in the Indian playing eleven for the contest.
