Get startedDauphin Highlands, a scenic 228-acre public golf course near Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, closed its doors on Monday after 28 years of operation. The course, designed by Bill Love and opened in 1995, was sold by Dauphin County for $45 million to a Texas-based developer to make way for a massive $10 billion, 400,000-square-foot data center.
Despite its financial struggles—including $13 million in debt—the county cited the project’s potential to bring significant infrastructure and public safety improvements to the local township. The final day of play drew over 300 golfers, many of whom shared emotional farewells, reflecting on decades of memories tied to the course, which once served as a corporate retreat for Bethlehem Steel before its transformation into a golf course in 1992.
