The final group at the St. Andrews Links Collegiate championship played out in brutal conditions, with wind and rain turning the Jubilee Course into a test of both skill and resilience.
Hannah Ounap, a 17-year-old Scot and University of Washington freshman, held a one-stroke lead over Farah O’Keefe, the University of Texas senior, as the two battled through the 14th and 15th holes. O’Keefe, accompanied by her coach Lara Ianello, navigated a tricky birdie putt under gusting winds, while Ounap drained a clutch 3-foot comebacker despite wearing unconventional spikeless shoes.
The wind’s relentless force even altered O’Keefe’s drive on the 15th, sending it sharply left into the rough, while Ounap struggled with an extreme draw that defied her control. Both players adapted to the elements, with Ounap’s two rain jackets flapping wildly in the breeze—a stark reminder of the day’s challenges.
By the end, the sun briefly broke through, offering a fleeting reprieve as the two remained locked in a tight duel for the medalist honors.
