Seven Hills senior Matia Kastner capped off a dominant final round with a 67 to claim the OHSAA Division III boys golf state title on Oct. 13, finishing two strokes ahead of the field.
Entering the second round tied for first, Kastner’s precision on the back nine sealed his victory, marking the second consecutive day a Cincinnati high school golfer won an OHSAA championship after Ellie Hartung’s Division II triumph the day prior. Kastner’s total of 138 over two rounds at NorthStar Golf Club also secured his spot as the 24th Greater Cincinnati individual to win a boys golf title since 1928, building on his prior finishes as a sophomore (tied for 23rd) and junior (28th).
The Seven Hills team, led by Kastner, placed seventh overall with a team score of 672, while Ottawa Hills topped the standings with a 586. St.
Xavier’s Bombers, meanwhile, earned the Division I state runner-up finish with a team total of 599, just 25 strokes behind champion Dublin Jerome. St.
Xavier sophomore Zac McGrath stood out individually with a 144, placing fourth overall, as the Bombers’ top performers also included seniors Patrick Paquette and Peter Boylan (both tied for 14th).
