The Dallas Mavericks suffered a 128-110 defeat to the Houston Rockets on Wednesday night in their first game of the season. While the contest remained close for three quarters, a disastrous second period where Dallas scored only 12 points against Houston's 38 proved decisive.
Cooper Flagg led the way with 32 points, while Kyrie Irving contributed 15 points on 6-of-9 shooting, and Naji Marshall added 16 points, 6 assists, and 2 rebounds coming off the bench.
Marcus Sasser, a Red Oak, Texas native and former University of Houston player, showed promise despite the loss. After missing the first three preseason games, Sasser, who was acquired in a six-team trade involving Santi Aldama and Tarik Biberovic, had an efficient outing.
He recorded a three-pointer, an assist to P.J. Washington, a steal, and a floater from 14 feet, demonstrating his poise as a playmaker during his limited minutes under Coach May.
