Thirty-three-year-old defenseman Ben Hutton has joined the New York Islanders on a professional tryout contract after spending the summer unsigned and training in Ottawa. The veteran blueliner, who won a Stanley Cup with Vegas in 2023, arrived on Long Island on Monday to help stabilize an Islanders defense affected by an injury to Ryan Pulock.
While on a tryout, Hutton is limited to practicing and traveling with the club and cannot play in games until earning a standard contract. Pete DeBoer, who previously coached Hutton with the Golden Knights, praised the defender as an experienced and versatile option who spent multiple seasons contributing to a deep defensive group.
