Spurs do score but Szoboszlai stunner seals cup tie for Liverpool

Liverpool secured a spot in the Carabao Cup fourth round with a 3-1 victory over Tottenham at Anfield. Following an early miss by Lucas Bergvall, Alexis Mac Allister curled in the breakthrough goal, and Cody Gakpo later doubled the advantage with a decisive finish toward the Kop after Mohammed Kudus had misfired for Spurs from a Destiny Udogie setup.

Conor Gallagher managed to halve the deficit to record Tottenham's initial goal against top-flight opponents this term, and an Omar Marmoush attempt was subsequently denied by Giorgi Mamardashvili's fingertip intervention. Dominik Szoboszlai put the outcome beyond reach deep into stoppage time, firing past Martin Dubravka.

The result eliminated Roberto De Zerbi's side, who were missing Richarlison, while Andoni Iraola's squad rebounded from a flat showing against Fulham despite making ten changes to the lineup. Youngsters Lewis Koumas and Trey Nyoni both caught the eye during the rotated performance, which was emphatically capped by Szoboszlai's late heroics.
