European citizens discard a massive sixteen kilograms of textiles annually, according to the European Environment Agency, with three-quarters of those items ultimately incinerated or sent to landfills. While the fast fashion sector drives the majority of this waste, the cycling industry also contributes through frequent releases of new apparel collections.
To combat the linear manufacturing model that dominates the textile industry, French apparel brand Velor has spent five years developing a fully circular cycling jersey manufactured entirely from textile waste. Co-founders Florian Jardin and Mickael Jardin built the brand's complex supply chain from scratch, scaling operations from testing a single prototype to processing an entire metric ton of recycled garments across several European nations.
