Cleveland Browns backup quarterback Shedeur Sanders has spoken out about the public perception surrounding his character, expressing frustration over what he describes as a disconnect between online criticism and in-person interactions. In a recent interview with *Cosmopolitan*, Sanders admitted he struggles with why people view him negatively, despite many who meet him personally describing him as a kind and approachable individual.
The 24-year-old, who entered the NFL as a fifth-round pick in 2025 after a standout college career at Colorado, has yet to see significant playing time this season, appearing in just eight games as a rookie while starter Deshaun Watson missed the entire year due to injury. Sanders has thrown only one pass in the Browns’ 3-1 start under first-year coach Todd Monken, as Watson has thrived with a 101.2 passer rating and six touchdowns through two interceptions entering Sunday’s matchup against the New York Jets.
With the Browns carrying four quarterbacks under contract—including fellow 2025 draft pick Dillon Gabriel, currently on injured reserve with a back injury—the competition for the No. 2 role behind Watson is heating up.
Gabriel, expected to return to practice this week, is poised to challenge Sanders for the backup spot ahead of the November 10 trade deadline, adding another layer of uncertainty to Cleveland’s quarterback depth chart.
