Scotland lose Ritchie and Millar Mills through injury

November 2, 2026

Scotland’s Nations Championship preparations have been disrupted by a pair of key injuries, with veteran flanker Jamie Ritchie ruled out after a knee issue during Glasgow Warriors’ 29-20 United Rugby Championship victory over the Lions. Ritchie, who joined Glasgow from Perpignan this summer, had only made his debut last month after months on the sidelines due to ankle and Achilles problems.

His early exit in Friday’s match—where he lasted just 10 minutes—has left Scotland scrambling for replacements ahead of their high-profile fixtures against New Zealand, Australia, and Japan later this month.

Newcastle’s Elliot Millar Mills also faces an extended absence after suffering a leg injury in just five minutes of his side’s 59-26 Premiership defeat to Northampton Saints. The 34-year-old, who has 15 caps, will miss Scotland’s upcoming matches, further tightening the squad’s depth.

To compensate, uncapped players Ollie Blyth-Lafferty, D’arcy Rae, and Freddy Douglas have been drafted in, while Sale Sharks’ Gus Warr and Glasgow’s Josh McKay will join the training group as they prepare for the challenging international schedule.
