Raiders sign backup Michael Mayer to $45 million extension as injuries pile up for Brock Bowers

Las Vegas has secured tight end Michael Mayer for the long haul, finalizing a fresh three-year pact valued at $45 million. The arrangement guarantees Mayer $30 million as he steps into an elevated role in the offense.

The roster decision comes as starting tight end Brock Bowers deals with ongoing knee trouble. Bowers, who is 23 years old, had a meniscus trim procedure on Tuesday following a setback in training camp and will sit out the season-opening contest against the Miami Dolphins.
