Jharkhand's 21-year-old left-handed opener Shikhar Mohan has been named to the India A squad for two four-day matches against New Zealand A. This selection follows his impressive domestic form, having scored 1,109 first-class runs at an average of 61.61 across 12 matches since debuting last year.
In the current Ranji Trophy, he notched two centuries in his first two games, including a 143 off 196 balls against Kerala, which helped Jharkhand secure three points. He also scored 127 in the second innings against Maharashtra to prevent a defeat and earn a point.
Mohan will be available for the second and third games of the series, which take place in Christchurch from October 31 to November 3 and Lincoln from November 7 to 10. The first match begins this Saturday in Lincoln.
He joins a squad featuring Test regulars such as Rishabh Pant, KL Rahul, Yashasvi Jaiswal, and Washington Sundar. These matches serve as preparation for India's upcoming Test series in New Zealand, which starts in Wellington on November 19 and concludes in Christchurch on November 27.
