The PGA Tour has publicly endorsed President Donald Trump’s effort to establish permanent Daylight Saving Time in the U.S., backing the bipartisan Sunshine Protection Act. In a letter to Trump, PGA Tour CEO Brian Rolapp highlighted how the change would benefit golfers nationwide, noting that an extra hour of evening daylight could significantly increase participation.
Rolapp cited estimates suggesting permanent DST could add 23 million extra rounds annually and inject $1 billion in new revenue for the golf industry. He also emphasized the advantages for televised events, such as extended live coverage and improved lighting conditions for broadcasts.
The PGA Tour’s support comes as the organization has sought to rebuild ties with Trump, including a return to Trump National Doral for the 2026 Cadillac Championship. Trump, who attended the recent Presidents Cup as honorary chairman, discussed the bill with Rolapp during the event, which saw the U.S.
team secure a dramatic victory over the International team. The Sunshine Protection Act has already passed the House with overwhelming support, though its Senate approval remains pending.
