The PGA Tour has thrown its weight behind the Sunshine Protection Act, a bipartisan bill aiming to eliminate the biannual clock changes by permanently adopting Daylight Saving Time. In a letter to former President Donald Trump—who attended the 16th Presidents Cup at Medinah Country Club—CEO Brian Rolapp highlighted how the proposal would benefit golfers nationwide.
With an estimated 23 million additional rounds played annually and $1 billion in new revenue for the industry, the act could reshape the sport’s accessibility, particularly for part-time players squeezed by tight schedules. The PGA Tour argues that extending evening daylight would allow more Americans to fit in rounds after work or school, while also improving broadcast conditions for late-round coverage.
The House has already passed a similar measure with overwhelming support (308-117), though the Senate remains the final hurdle for the legislation.
