Pens Points: Opening night nears

As the Pittsburgh franchise prepares for opening night, team management made several roster adjustments on Sunday by sending three players down to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton and placing four others on the injured list. With short-term vacancies opening up in the bottom six due to those injuries, a newcomer acquired from Washington during the offseason is aiming to earn a center spot.

Meanwhile, a young goaltender continues to show progress after a pair of solid seasons in the minor leagues, joining other netminders in competing for playing time. In veteran news, a long-tenured star is entering his twenty-first campaign at age forty as part of the established core.

Elsewhere around the league, leadership changes and championship celebrations took place over the weekend. A star forward was officially named as the newest captain of the Boston franchise, and another organization commemorated its recent title run by presenting custom championship rings containing hundreds of gems during a private ceremony.
