The New England Patriots invited two free agents to workouts at Gillette Stadium following their preseason win over the Las Vegas Raiders. Defensive end Diego Paz Gonzalez, a 23-year-old standout from the NFL International Player Pathway, earned recognition as the American Football League Europe’s Most Improved Defensive Player in 2026 while playing for Germany’s Rhein Fire.
He recorded 48 tackles, nine sacks, and a touchdown-caliber interception during the regular and postseason. Cornerback Dontae Manning, 25, entered the NFL as an undrafted free agent with the Atlanta Falcons in 2025 before joining the Chicago Bears’ practice squad and later securing a futures contract in the NFC North.
Manning contributed 11 tackles across 121 preseason snaps for the Bears this year.
The Patriots currently have roster openings after recent moves, including activating safety Brenden Schooler from the non-football injury list and promoting cornerback Kindle Vildor. The team also placed fullback Reggie Gilliam and wide receiver Mack Hollins on injured reserve, while linebacker K.J.
Britt and safety Elliott Davison returned to the practice squad. With the Jets visiting Gillette Stadium next Sunday for an AFC East kickoff, the Patriots’ coaching staff may evaluate the free agents as they prepare for the season ahead.
