Milwaukee Brewers starter Corbin Burnes faced a rough third inning in his postseason return to American Family Field, where he had previously thrown a complete-game shutout in Game 2 of last year’s NLCS. After allowing a leadoff single to David Hamilton and a stolen base, Burnes walked Brice Turang on a controversial call, as a pitch that appeared to be a strike three was ruled a ball.
The inning spiraled further when Burnes threw 12 pitches to Jake Bauers, including six consecutive fouls and a PitchCom issue, before walking him to load the bases. Christian Yelich then capitalized with a two-run single, giving Milwaukee a 3-2 lead and ending Burnes’ streak of four consecutive postseason starts with six-plus innings pitched and one or fewer runs allowed—a stretch that had tied him for second in MLB history behind Curt Schilling.
The outing marked the shortest postseason start of Burnes’ career, as he was pulled after 36 pitches in the third inning, his highest pitch count through three frames since June 13, 2025. Dodgers manager Dave Roberts later acknowledged the Brewers’ offensive effort, noting their ability to work deep counts and capitalize on tough pitches, including Yelich’s clutch hit off a hanging curveball.
