Following a narrow 34-27 defeat to Texas, Ole Miss head coach Pete Golding expressed his biggest regret centered on a missed scoring opportunity right before the intermission. Rather than attempting a short field goal with kicker Lucas Carneiro on fourth-and-goal from the 2-yard line, Golding kept his offense on the field, resulting in an interception thrown by quarterback Trinidad Chambliss to Rasheem Biles.

Later in the contest, another controversial choice involved a blocked 58-yard field goal attempt that ultimately allowed the Longhorns to secure their victory and drop the Rebels to a 5-2 record.
