Haas has made an unexpected roster adjustment for the remainder of the Mexican Grand Prix weekend, replacing Esteban Ocon with Ryo Hirakawa. The team provided no explanation for the sudden move, stating only that the driver is not suffering from any illness and that no additional comments will be provided.
Hirakawa, a 32-year-old Toyota endurance racing champion, previously participated in the team's opening practice session. Ocon, who is scheduled to depart the organization at the conclusion of the current season, had finished 13th in the second practice session before this change was announced.
This development follows a similar mid-season departure for the driver during his tenure with Alpine in 2024.
