Simon Harmer was overcome with emotion after claiming his first ten-wicket haul in Test cricket to steer South Africa to a 176-run triumph over Australia. The victory also secured a two to one series win for the hosts.
Reflecting on his winding career path, the thirty-seven year old spinner highlighted his time playing county cricket in England for Essex after falling out of the national side following a tour of India in two thousand and fifteen. Following his recall in two thousand and twenty two, Harmer delivered career-best second-innings figures of six for sixteen, backed up by early breakthroughs from Kagiso Rabada on the final day, to bowl Australia out for one hundred and eleven and claim the player of the match award.
