Fresh planning consent has paved the way for Nottingham Forest to expand their ground, an initiative designed to accommodate up to 21,300 additional spectators—representing a 68% surge in matchday attendance. Local authorities face heightened logistical hurdles in nearby districts such as Lady Bay, where heavy traffic frequently traps occupants indoors and disrupts public bus routes.

In response, ward councillor Richard Mallender and fellow officials advocate for a controlled parking zone prohibiting non-resident vehicles within a 25-minute walk of the venue for four-hour windows around matches. Forest will provide £990,000 toward this enforcement mechanism as part of an overarching £4.1m program intended to encourage non-vehicular travel, with progress monitored by a specialized joint transport panel.

A primary obstacle remains the foot-traffic bottleneck across the River Trent, especially after road officials rejected shutting down two vehicular lanes on Trent Bridge. Planners designated crossing capacity as the major limitation on the scheme, imposing an official condition that requires the club to devise a viable pedestrian route before proceeding.

While nearby local councils strongly favor constructing a dedicated foot and cycle bridge, supporters harbor concerns that funding and constructing such infrastructure could trigger extensive delays to the overall stadium redevelopment.
