No. 12 UCLA defeated Wisconsin 17-7 at the Rose Bowl on October 17, improving its record to 6-0 overall and 4-0 in the Big Ten, while the Badgers fell to 4-2 overall and 2-1 in conference play.
The Bruins, who had previously upset Oregon, outgained Wisconsin 378-214 despite starting backup quarterback Ty Dieffenbach due to a leg injury to Nico Iamealeava. Dieffenbach completed 22 of 34 passes for 364 yards, whereas Wisconsin quarterback Colton Joseph managed only 66 passing yards on 6 of 16 attempts, though he led the team in rushing with 71 yards on 18 carries.
Wisconsin's defense struggled to secure stops on third down, allowing UCLA to convert 13 of 20 opportunities, including eight of 11 in the first half. The Badgers also committed a season-high 10 penalties for 102 yards, which included a controversial unsportsmanlike conduct call on Joseph after a 26-yard run.
UCLA's Mateen Bhaghani kicked a field goal with 3:07 remaining in the first quarter, and Wayne Knight scored a one-yard touchdown with 7:16 left in the first half to seal the victory.
