Legendary fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar has raised concerns about the future of Pakistan’s ODI lineup, including captain Babar Azam, ahead of the upcoming tri-nation series against Sri Lanka and England. Akhtar suggested that while Azam and other senior players like Naseem Shah, Shaheen Afridi, Haris Rauf, and Shadab Khan are expected to feature, their performances will be scrutinized heavily.
With Azam having played just three ODIs in 2024—scoring 125 runs at an average of 34.00—Akhtar questioned whether the PCB might reconsider their ODI roles if results fall short. The former player emphasized that while Azam deserves to play, he must prove his worth in limited-overs cricket to secure his place long-term.
Akhtar also warned against placing undue pressure on the senior players, cautioning that expectations should not be framed as a final opportunity for success.
