The BYU Cougars pulled off a stunning upset against the No. 2 Notre Dame Fighting Irish on Saturday night, securing a 28-24 victory at LaVell Edwards Stadium.
Quarterback Bear Bachmeier led the charge with a standout performance, totaling four touchdowns—two rushing, one passing, and one on a receiving trick play—to give BYU a commanding 21-10 halftime lead. Notre Dame fought back fiercely in the second half, cutting the deficit to 24-21 after a late touchdown run by Jonaz Walton and a successful two-point conversion.
However, BYU’s defense held strong, forcing a punt that set up Bachmeier’s game-sealing 55-yard drive, culminating in a clutch touchdown pass to Walker Lyons with just over a minute left. Notre Dame’s final drive stalled at the goal line, sealing BYU’s historic win and keeping the Cougars undefeated at 6-0 while bolstering their College Football Playoff hopes.
