The BYU Cougars pulled off a stunning upset against the Notre Dame Fighting Irish, ending the Fighting Irish’s undefeated season with a 28-24 victory. The win marked BYU’s first-ever triumph over a top-10 team in AP rankings and snapped a 19-year drought in their rivalry with Notre Dame, last defeating the Irish in 2004.
Quarterback Bear Bachmeier led the charge, securing two rushing touchdowns and guiding BYU to a commanding first-half lead with 129 passing yards on 13-of-18 completions. Notre Dame fought back fiercely in the second half, nearly overcoming the deficit, but a controversial final play—an incomplete pass from CJ Carr to Jaden Greathouse—sealed the Cougars’ historic win.
The loss drops Notre Dame to 6-1 on the season, while BYU remains unbeaten at 6-0, preserving their perfect record and joining an elite group of undefeated FBS teams.
