NFC West Recap: 49ers in first place after Week 1; the Rams are not

Week 1 concluded with the San Francisco 49ers claiming top billing in the NFC West following a convincing 27-7 triumph over the Los Angeles Rams at the MCG in Australia. The defeat, combined with the Arizona Cardinals orchestrating an upset over the Chargers, left the Rams in the divisional basement as the lone squad without a victory.

However, San Francisco's opening-round success came at a cost, as first-year receiver De'Zhaun Stribling avoided a feared Achilles issue but sustained a severe ankle sprain that will keep him sidelined for four weeks or more.

Health concerns further shook up the rest of the division during the kickoff slate. The Rams saw premier pass rusher Myles Garrett suffer a knee injury that landed him on injured reserve, ruling him out for four games at minimum.

In addition, the Seattle Seahawks were hit hard when starting signal-caller Sam Darnold suffered a substantial injury of his own.
