Ahead of the upcoming five-match ODI series against India starting November 4, New Zealand head coach Rob Walter has announced a tactical shift regarding Finn Allen. The team plans to deploy the 27-year-old batter in the middle order to maximize his aggressive capabilities during the crucial middle overs between 25 and 40, when an extra fielder is positioned outside the ring.
Allen brings prior experience in this role, having previously scored 87 runs off 65 balls from the number four position for New Zealand A against India A in Lincoln in January 2020. In other squad arrangements, Devon Conway will open the batting alongside Tim Seifert for the first three ODIs before leaving to prepare for the Test matches, leaving Nick Kelly to take over opening duties for the final two games of the series.
Meanwhile, fast bowler Will O'Rourke is managing his recovery from a lower-back injury and a subsequent calf setback, with New Zealand hoping he will be available for the Test series against Australia. The wider tour schedule incorporates both a five-match T20I series and a two-match Test series against India.
