The Mumbai Cricket Association has unveiled its Ranji Trophy 2026-27 squad without Suryakumar Yadav, marking another setback for the former India T20 captain following his omission from the national team. Despite his leadership in India’s 2026 T20 World Cup victory, Yadav was excluded from the state’s red-ball lineup, signaling a shift in Mumbai’s approach ahead of the upcoming season.
The team has instead entrusted experienced batter Siddesh Lad with the captaincy, while Ayush Mhatre, the former India U-19 captain and ICC U-19 World Cup winner, has been named vice-captain—a move highlighting Mumbai’s focus on nurturing young talent. The squad features established stars like Yashasvi Jaiswal and Sarfaraz Khan, alongside emerging players such as Musheer Khan, Hardik Tamore, and Tanush Kotian, as Mumbai aims to build momentum after a disappointing 2025 campaign that saw them fall short of the final.
Their season kicks off on October 11 against Chandigarh, though the venue remains unconfirmed. The absence of Rohit Sharma, another key figure from last year’s squad, further underscores the team’s strategic overhaul, with Mhatre’s leadership role drawing particular attention given his recent IPL struggles and ongoing rehabilitation from injury.
