Green Bay Packers linebacker Edgerrin Cooper will miss the rest of the 2026 NFL season after tearing his Achilles tendon during Week 4. The injury, initially suspected after Cooper left the Packers’ 24–21 win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, was confirmed by team tests on Monday.
Head coach Matt LaFleur had already signaled a grim outlook, stating the team was preparing for Cooper’s absence for the remainder of the year. The 24-year-old, selected in the second round of the 2024 NFL Draft, had emerged as a key defensive force, starting 16 games last season and recording 118 combined tackles.
This season, he had already delivered standout performances, including 30 tackles, three sacks, and an interception returned for 18 yards through four games—numbers approaching career highs early in the campaign. His loss compounds a string of injuries for the Packers, who have also lost Micah Parsons (ACL tear), Jayden Reed (neck injury), Zach Bako-Bewele (patellar tendon tear), and Luke Musgrave (neck injury), forcing the team to rely on younger defenders like Isaiah McDuffie to fill the void.
