Mohammad Rizwan’s troubles deepen as Lahore HC dismisses petition in online betting, gambling probe

Mohammad Rizwan has faced another significant setback following Pakistan's 0-3 Test series sweep in England, an encounter that was overshadowed by disciplinary breaches, dressing-room leaks, and dubious financial dealings. Both Rizwan and batter Imam-ul-Haq were questioned by the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency after the second Test at Lord's regarding leaked team information, leading to the seizure of Rizwan's mobile device.

Challenging the agency's summons over jurisdiction and vague justifications regarding online gambling inquiries, Rizwan submitted a writ petition to the Lahore High Court, which Chief Justice Aalia Neelum dismissed on Thursday while ordering his legal team to comply with the notice.

Following the court's rejection, the Pakistan Cricket Board is delaying potential disciplinary procedures until the agency concludes its forensic review of the confiscated mobile devices belonging to both players. Investigators intend to deliver a comprehensive digital audit directly to the board next week.

Team management will base its subsequent course of action on the findings, with the players anticipated to avoid punishment should the forensic analysis uncover no illicit activity.
