Bangladesh’s star fast bowler Marufa Akter will miss the upcoming white-ball series against New Zealand after the Bangladesh Cricket Board confirmed her absence from the tour. The team departs for New Zealand on December 4 for a three-match ODI and T20I series, but Akter will remain in Bangladesh to focus on recovering from a persistent ankle injury involving bone erosion in her right foot.
Her condition has worsened despite prior treatment, including an injection before the recent tour of Australia, where she was rested in the final match to avoid aggravating the issue. The BCB has prioritized her full recovery over immediate tour participation, citing her status as a key player for Bangladesh’s pace attack.
Akter, a right-arm medium-fast bowler known for her ability to unsettle top-order batters, is expected to resume walking in early December but remains unavailable for the New Zealand series. Her return to international cricket may come in the weeks following the tour, pending continued progress in her rehabilitation.
