Manchester United’s latest nightmare & Sunderland shine in Europe

Manchester United suffered a dramatic collapse against Brighton, surrendering an early two-goal advantage to fall 3-2. The defeat leaves manager Michael Carrick with only two victories across his first six fixtures in charge this term.

Brighton skipper Pascal Gross played a pivotal role in the comeback that eliminated United.

In continental action, Sunderland celebrated their return to European football by edging Dutch outfit AZ Alkmaar 1-0 in the UEFA Europa League under head coach Regis Le Bris. Meanwhile, a major upset unfolded in the EFL Cup third round as Matt Lawlor's fourth-tier Fleetwood Town secured a 1-0 triumph over Chris Wilder's Sheffield United, earning themselves a home clash with Arsenal in the next phase.
