Man City dump Brighton out of Carabao Cup after shoot-out victory

Manchester City advanced to the Carabao Cup quarter-finals after overcoming Brighton in a penalty shootout at the Etihad. Despite trailing twice during regulation time due to goals from Malick Yalcouye and Georginio Rutter, the hosts responded through Mateo Kovacic and a deflected Rayan Cherki free-kick to force a 2-2 draw.

Goalkeeper Geronimo Rulli proved decisive in the shootout by saving attempts from Yasin Ayari and Lewis Dunk, allowing Cherki to seal a 4-3 victory for the holders. Fabian Hurzeler will look to bounce back when the two clubs face off again in league action this Saturday.
